Yoga & Sourdough Weekend

Learn the basics of Sourdough baking while enjoying a weekend of Yoga and relaxation

During this weekend you will receive expert tuition on the basics of Sourdough baking from our in-house chef. Starting on Saturday morning, you will prepare your own sourdough starter, follow through the process during the weekend, and finish with baking your own Sourdough loaf to take home.

There will be two sessions of yoga on both days.

The Yoga will be a mix of energising alignment-based practice and restorative yoga with plenty of props to support you and allow your body to fully relax. We will incorporate mindfulness practices, breath work and deep relaxation. This is sure to send you off to your comfortable beds for a deep, nourishing sleep.  

In between the Yoga sessions, we will spend time in the retreat kitchen, learning how to refresh and look after your sourdough starter; stretching and folding the dough; resting and shaping the dough and finally baking your very own loaf.

You will leave with your own sourdough starter, a freshly baked loaf, tried and trusted recipes and plenty of hints and tips to help you continue your sourdough journey.

The weekend has been designed for everyone - from total beginners in Yoga and Sourdough to those with more experience, seeking a refresher.

More about the Yoga and Meditation

With restorative yoga, our intention is to relax into the postures, supported by props such as bolsters, chairs, blankets so that we use less physical effort.  This enables you to focus on your breath and releasing tension in your body, cultivating mindfulness and a sense of release in body and soul.

Restorative yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows the heart rate, regulates the blood pressure and relaxes the body. As such, Restorative yoga is considered particularly beneficial for those suffering from anxiety, insomnia or headaches, as well as other stress-related conditions.

Restorative yoga is believed to boost the immune system and accelerate the body's natural healing process.

We take the time to ensure that everyone is able to find a comfortable seated or lying position for the meditation.

I learnt to bake sourdough over 4 years ago following a number of disheartening ‘failures” as I tried to teach myself from books and YouTube.

Following a day course at Bread Ahead in Borough Market London, I attended  The Sourdough School in Northampton on a week long diploma course run by Vanessa Kimbell. I also attended Dan Lepards Sourdough Masterclass in London.

Over the following 3 years I have developed my sourdough baking skills and now produce top quality sourdough boules, focaccia, ciabatta and croissant.

Having come through the school of hard knocks, I know the frustrations that you can have on your sourdough journey. I want to share my passion for baking sourdough and the absolute joy in producing top quality very digestible bread.

My yoga journey spans 40 years, starting with a deep grounding in the Iyengar system and more recently in Knoff Yoga, with complimentary practice in Ashtanga Vinyasa, Yin Yoga and Scaravelli-inspired.

I have completed over 600 hours of teacher training since 2001, in Yoga, Meditation and Pranayama, achieved the Yoga Alliance 200 RYT, Knoff Yoga Foundation Certificate, Anatomy and Physiology diploma (Otago Uni) and teaching certificates in Yin Yoga and Aerial Yoga.

I believe that Yoga is for everyone and my aim as a teacher is to demystify the practice and make it accessible, fun, safe and above all, beneficial for every student regardless of their starting place. 

The Iyengar approach has given me a deep understanding of the principles of alignment and this strong, intelligent and focused style of Yoga continues to influence my teaching today.

I am hugely indebted to the many talented teachers that I have been fortunate to study with and my purpose as a teacher is to pass on their knowledge and channel their unique gifts to the best of my ability.
